Euthanasia Services Report Animal Abuse or Neglect |
hoosing to put a loved companion animal to sleep can be a very difficult decision. If you have made that choice, we encourage you to bring your animal to PHS/SPCA’s shelter at 12 Airport Blvd. at Coyote Point in San Mateo, where we can provide a humane, dignified ending. Public hours are 11 am to 7 pm on weekdays and 11 am to 6 pm on weekends. If you wish to be present with your pet during the procedure, we ask that you call first to make an appointment. 340-7022, ext. 339. We offer owner-present appointments on Thursday and Fridays, from 2-4:30 pm. Our euthanasia service for dogs, cats or small animals is $50. We also offer private or communal cremations as a service to owners. Among all the positive feedback we receive for all our work, programs and services, some of the kindest, most heartfelt letters, cards and email messages come from people who visited our shelter when it was time to put their pet to sleep. The resounding message is this: “We had to do something truly heartbreaking and your employees were compassionate, caring and understanding…you made an incredibly difficult situation a little bit easier and we can’t thank you enough.”
Pet Loss Support GroupWhen your companion animal dies, it's natural to feel grief and sadness, even depression. Our free support group is designed to offer anyone grieving the death, loss or terminal illness of a beloved companion animal. Led by a professional counselor, our group meets the second Thursday of each month, from 7-8:30 pm. The group usually ranges in size from 6 to 12 participants. Some people come once or twice, others four or five times. Participants need not be PHS/SPCA adopters and are not required to sign up for the class. For more information, please contact Lindsay Reynolds at 650/340-7022, ext. 344 or lreynolds@PHS-SPCA.org. The group is held at our new Tom and Annette Lantos Center for Compassion, located at 1450 Rollins Rd., Burlingame (x street Edwards Ct.). Dates for 2013:
