Cruelty Investigations Report Animal Abuse or Neglect |
UPDATE December 7 , 2011 – With donations received this past week, the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA’s reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for drowning a cat in Redwood Shores has reached $13,250. PHS/SPCA first learned of this horrific act on November 2, when a Redwood City Sewer District employee brought a deceased cat removed from a Redwood Shores lagoon to the shelter. The cat, a black and white, neutered male approx. 12 years old with declawed front paws and no collar or microchip, was found with a five-pound dumbbell type weigh attached to his neck with heavy duty plastic zip tie fasteners. We are sickened by this and will do everything possible to find the person or persons responsible, but we need your help. We are also actively trying to locate the cat’s owner. If you have information which might help us locate the cat’s owner or the person or persons responsible, please call 650/340-7022, ext. 384. We will return calls if you ask or if we have questions based on the information provided. If you would like to make a donation, please call 340-7022, ext. 327. Cruelty InvestigationsOur Cruelty Investigation work is funded entirely by donations and performed by trained investigators. As evidenced by media accounts, we take this work seriously and our team is a model for other humane organizations across the country. When we receive an animal cruelty call or complaint, we review it fully and take necessary action, which could range from an “education-only” visit to removing an animal from harm’s way and forwarding a report to our District Attorney’s Office for possible prosecution. If you are aware of an animal being abused, please call 650/340-7022, ext. 601. Also, please see Reporting Animal Abuse or Neglect and San Mateo County Animal Laws.
