Overlooked Treasures

Every now and then, we find a great cat in the shelter week after week. Perhaps the kitty didn't reach out when a potential adopter walked by. Maybe she was the quietest cat in a room full of active kitty companions. Whatever the case, we wouldn't want you to miss seeing these wonderful felines. Take a look!

Jewel

Adopt me for free!

See my video! Hello, I am Jewel and I am truly an overlooked treasure. I am a 9 year old altered female Domestic Medium Hair. I have been at the shelter for many months now and I am not giving up my faith that some day I will find my forever home. After all these months I still go to the front of my cage when each person passes by, hoping that this will be the one for me. Being confined is not an easy life for such a social girl. I am very affectionate with the staff and volunteers and I just want to have companionship. I can also be very silly and playful. Although I am reported to get along with other cats, I would be the most happy as the only pet in the home so that I will not have to compete with other cats for food and the litter box. Please come see me soon and ask for ID A388589.

Vintage Cats

PHS/SPCA receives many middle-aged and older cats. Cats 5 years of age and up are listed in this section. Beginning July 1, 2008 PHS/SPCA is waiving the entire adoption fee for all shelter cats at least five years of age. The seasonal program, made possible by generous donors Charlotte Toerck and Johannes Hoech of Redwood City, will likely last through the end of August. Read more

PHS/SPCA vets check the health all of the cats we offer for adoption and write health notes which are available to potential adopters. The older cats we offer are healthy but may need regular checkups and special diets to maximize their lifespans. Well cared for indoor cats can live for 20 years or more. Open your home to an older cat today!

Lim

Adopt me for free!

Hello, I am Lim. I am a 10 year old altered male Domestic Short Hair. I have the cutest folded ear on one side that gives me a quizzical look. I am a gentle, friendly fellow who is looking for a home that will keep me forever. I am good with other cats. I am polite and affectionate and will probably keep your lap quite warm. I have a very soft coat and I am in great physical condition. If you are looking for a nice, calm gentleman cat, please consider me. ID A431000.

Guera

Adopt me for free!

See my video! Hi, Guera here. I am a 10 year young altered female with a sparkling personality. I am an itty bitty little kitty with a soft pure white coat and green eyes. I love people, playing and rolling around as you scratch my belly. I will need a guardian with some animal experience and a quiet home with no children. My coloring and age mean I must be kept indoors only. So if you are looking for a sweet and gentle mature cat with plenty of pep then come down to meet me and ask for Guera and my ID A428263.

Glinda

Adopt me for free!

Hi, my name is Glinda. I am an 8 year old altered female Domestic Short Hair. I am a very friendly girl, I love attention and I’m also curious. I have nice, soft fur and a great personality, I’m just waiting to meet my new family. My ID is A417915.

Ladybug

Adopt me for free!

See my video! Meow! I’m Ladybug, a 10.5-year-old altered female tuxedo cat. I am a friendly and vocal gal that enjoys voicing my opinion. And here is one of my thoughts: don’t go straight to the kittens, us older…I mean mature cats need loving homes too, meow! So anyway, once I am comfortable with you I am very sweet and will rub up against you and purr while sitting in your lap. I need an experienced cat owner and a calmer home where I will be kept indoors only. Children in the household must be in their teens. I am a neat little kitty so I hope you will consider visiting me and then taking me home. Ask for Ladybug, ID A421883 meow!

Dolly

See my video! Hi, I’m Dolly. I am a 10 year old altered female Domestic Short Hair. I am a confident girl with lots of personality. I’m friendly, but I tend to play a bit rough. I would prefer to live without other cats and would do better with teenage children. I would do great with an experienced cat owner. My ID is A421929.

See my video! Hi, I’m Penny. I am a 14 year old altered female domestic short hair. I am calm, gentle and friendly. I get along well with the cats here in the condo and I would probably do fine with kids. I’m a sweet girl and would love to have a new family bring me home. My ID is A135761.

Sysco

Adopt me for free!

Hi, I’m Sysco. I am a 5 year old altered female Domestic Short Hair. I like to cuddle and sleep under blankets, so if you don’t see me at first, I’m probably just napping. I am friendly and gentle. I’ve been told that I’m a very sweet girl and I’d prefer to be the only pet in your home. I am declawed so I need to live indoors as well. My number is A364397.

Ozzy

Adopt me for free!

See my video! Hello Ozzy is my name! I am an 8 year old altered male cat. I am a very friendly and outgoing fellow. I love to be scratched behind the ears and I have a great purr. With proper introduction, I could probably learn to live with children age 6 and older, and I would be a great cat for the first time pet owner. I get along fine with the other cats in my condo so I could probably learn to live with a resident cat in your home. Please stop by the shelter and ask for ID A422126.

serena

Adopt me for free!

See my video! Hi, I’m Serena. I am an 8 year old altered female Domestic Short Hair. I am gentle and friendly and I can be talkative at times. I also like to play, and when I’m tired of playing I’ll be perfectly happy to sit on your lap. I need to be the only pet in your home, but I would probably do fine with teenage children. I’m a very pretty girl waiting to meet some friendly people to take me home! A421733

Mouse

Adopt me for free!

See my video! Hello, my name is Mouse. I am an 8 year old altered female Domestic Long Hair. I have a very pretty coat that will need regular brushing to keep me looking my best. I am a very affectionate girl and I love attention, but I can get over-stimulated easily, so I am looking for an adult-only home with previous cat experience. I will make such a great companion, and I only ask for good food, a warm place to sleep and an understanding new family who will help me to be my best. Please come by the shelter and ask for ID A420301.

* These are only some of the wonderful cats we have for adoption. We do our best to update this page regularly (with volunteers) but we can't guarantee every animal shown here is still available. It's also typical that we have cats in the shelter who haven't yet had their photos taken, etc, so even though the site has been updated, that doesn't mean you're seeing all the cats here that are actually available at our shelter. So please come down to our shelter! It's a loving place and we are happy to help you find the perfect cat for you.

To hear a recording of the most current listing of animals for adoption, call 650/340-7022, ext. 705.

To adopt an animal, please visit the shelter in person to meet with a customer service representative and the animal. You can download an adoption profile form for a cat or a dog, complete the form and bring it with you to the shelter. Adoption hours are 11 am to 7 pm on the weekdays and 11 am to 6 pm on the weekends. (Note that it is often not possible for our staff to complete adoptions for visitors arriving less than an hour before our posted closing times.)

Our staff is busy taking care of the animals and making matches, therefore we are unable to answer inquiries about individual animals over email.
